To someone who hasn’t been to London before, it can seem like the most overwhelming city in the world. There are so many things to do and places to visit, and each neighborhood has its own unique flavor and feel. In order to make your trip more enjoyable and less stressful, I put together this London tourist guide that will help you find the most adventurous places in London. Here are my top five picks.

Adventurous Places in London

Trafalgar Square

Located near Westminster, Trafalgar Square is a popular meeting place for tourists and locals alike. Whether you’re looking for a quiet corner with a bench or something more energetic, like buskers and street performers, this plaza has it all. The most famous landmark in the square is Nelson’s Column which was built following England’s victory in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar. There is also an Egyptian obelisk that commemorates Lord Nelson’s victories over Napoleon.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

This beautiful cathedral is one of the most historic buildings in all of England. The first church on this site was built by King Ethelbert of Kent, and it is among the oldest churches still standing today. St Paul’s Cathedral has been rebuilt several times since then, with major restoration work done after a fire destroyed it in 1666. When touring St Paul’s Cathedral, keep an eye out for some incredible artwork and paintings – there are more than 3,000 individual pieces displayed throughout the building.

The Bankside Hotel

Whether you want to eat, drink, shop or explore, the Bankside Hotel is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. With an affordable price tag and plenty of character, this hotel has something for everyone.

Borough Market

This market has been around since the 12th century and is still one of the most popular places for tourists and locals alike. It was even used as a site for filming scenes from Harry Potter movies. With over 100 stalls with everything from fresh produce, meat, fish, cheese, bread, and pastries, Borough Market is certainly worth checking out.

Millenium Bridge

Millennium Bridge is a striking piece of architecture spanning across the River Thames. Spanning some 175 feet, it offers unparalleled views of both Tate Modern and St. Pauls Cathedral on either side of the bridge. The bridge has a pedestrian walkway and also carries bike traffic as well as vehicles. This is a great place for tourists to stop and take pictures or have their pictures taken by one of the many street photographers that frequent this location.
